REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Provincial Government of Jakarta is perfecting an early warning system for flood, the biggest problem in the capital city during rainy season. The impact of the flood could be minimized and controlled with the system, Deputy of Public Work Department of Jakarta, Tarjuki, said.
"Jakarta has had early warning system of flood for a long time. We prioritize early warning and mitigation because no country in the world can overcome flood," he said on Friday. He explained that there were at least four information sources about flood. The first is weather forecast from Indonesian Agency of Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG). "During the bad weather, BMKG will send us the data of rain gauge," he said.
Second is the prediction of tidal in Tanjung Priok, while the third is information from Meteorological analyst. Fourthly, the officer who monitors the water flow in upstream will inform the government.
"For instance, if the height of water surface in Katulampa hits third stage, we will tell people that in 12 hours the water from Bogor will come along Ciliwung river," he said.
Currently, seven areas in Jakarta already have Peil Schall to measure the water flow. Those areas are Angke River, Pesanggrahan River, Krukut River, two in Ciliwung River, Cipinang River, dan Sunter River.
